{"id":139,"date":"2015-03-27T23:56:18","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T23:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pa0esh.com\/?page_id=139"},"modified":"2015-03-27T23:56:18","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T23:56:18","slug":"work-around-old-prolific-usbtoserial-drivers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pa0esh.com\/?page_id=139","title":{"rendered":"Work around Old Prolific USBtoSerial drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Installing the Prolific PL-2303 driver and the \u201cThe device cannot be started (code 10)&#8221; was very much a heartacha and virually impossible.<br \/>\nApparently the driver from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prolific.com.tw\/eng\/downloads.asp?ID=31\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www.prolific.com.tw\/eng\/downloads.asp?ID=31<\/a> does work.<br \/>\nHowever I think the installer program corrupts SER2PL.SYS, the very driver that is needed.\u00a0 Here\u2019s my workaround.<\/p>\n<p>Download from Prolific <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prolific.com.tw\/eng\/downloads.asp?ID=31\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www.prolific.com.tw\/eng\/downloads.asp?ID=31<\/a><br \/>\n1. PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.5.0.zip<br \/>\n2. PL2303DRemover_v1001.zip<\/p>\n<p>And from <a href=\"http:\/\/sysfiles-download.com\/sysindex\/ser2pl.sys.html#edown\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/sysfiles-download.com\/sysindex\/ser2pl.sys.html#edown<\/a><br \/>\n1. Download ser2pl.sys<br \/>\n2. Don\u2019t worry about the other 3 or 4 files that come with it ALL YOU NEED IS <strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">SER2PL.SYS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok let\u2019s get started,<\/p>\n<p>* REMEMBER WHERE YOU EXTRACTED ALL THE FILES TO INCLUDING SER2PL.SYS<br \/>\n* After all downloads and extractions from Zip, run the prolific driver installer.<br \/>\n* Run the PL2303 remover program, all this does is remove the SER2PL.SYS file from your system.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s do it:<\/p>\n<p>Go to your device manager (your Prolific USB to Serial cable plugged in)<br \/>\n* XP&gt; control panel &gt; System&gt; Hardware tab&gt;Device Manager. Click on \u201cports (com &amp; LPT)<br \/>\n* Or however you know how to get there!<br \/>\nYou should see the \u201cprolific\u201d device, \u201cProlific USB to Serial COM Port (com#)\u201d\u00a0 If you don\u2019t it\u2019s not plugged in!<br \/>\n* right click and select \u201cupdate driver\u201d<br \/>\n*\u00a0 select \u201cinstall from a list, or specific place(advanced)<br \/>\n* On the next menu select the radio button \u201csearch for the best driver in these locations\u201d<br \/>\n* Deselect the tick box for \u201csearch for removable media\u201d<br \/>\n* Select the tick box for \u201cInclude this location in the search\u201d<br \/>\n* Browse to the folder where you extracted and saved the SER2PL.SYS file.<br \/>\n* Press next and install the driver.<\/p>\n<p>73&#8217;s and good luck<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Installing the Prolific PL-2303 driver and the \u201cThe device cannot be started (code 10)&#8221; was very much a heartacha and virually impossible.
